For Den - Hamamellis mollis in full flower. It's about 8ft high and wide, but this tree is at least 20 years old and now grows very slowly. The twigs I cut for scent are enough pruning to keep it the same size.
Hi Trillium, I came across your website, pleased to see you use blogger too. Was very chuffed to see me on the links page, thankyou... I love the wall in your garden, it really shows off the spring planting. Our wall is starting to get covered in ivy, so must get out and pull it down, everything takes so long. Planted a load more bulbs today, decided I should be finishing off tidying the garden first, so much to do, so little time...know the feeling. What are you going to do with the area that had the ivy growing over the fence ...3' of extra growing space
The main beneficiaries of the extra 3' will be my eldest's car, which was getting buried, and the neighbour's woodland border. But we'll replace the fence later (it's the property boundary) and I'll grow climbers up it on our side. Not sure exactly what yet - a couple of climbing (not too thorny) roses and one or more of the tangutica clematis for a start. There's already a hydrangea petiolaris on the neighbours side so might repeat that too.
A weblog diary of our garden in north west England. As we're (hopefully) about to buy an established nursery business, the 'Weekend Gardener' may soon become a full time horticulturalist. Oh, and I won the BBC Gardener of the Year competition, 2006.
Location: nr Barnton, Cheshire, North west UK, United Kingdom
Bluebell Cottage Gardens is set in quiet Cheshire countryside, near Barnton. I took over here in 2007 shortly after winning the BBC's Gardener of the Year competition and set about rebuilding the nursery and garden into a thriving venture.
Visit the gardens and nursery website here: Bluebell Cottage Gardens website.
